 President René Wadlow writes, “At a time when the face of Burmese leadership is that of the current military dictator General Min Aung Hlaing, best known for his campaign against the Rohingya, it is useful to recall another style of Burmese leadership,” that of United Nations Secretary-General U Thant, a “gentle Burmese Buddhist [who] was regarded as unremarkable which was exactly what the major powers, led by the USA and the USSR, wanted after the lightning bolt of the second Secretary-General, Dag Hammarskjold.” Read full article

The International Criminal Court announced that on March 26, the ICC’s Trial Chamber II “decided to extend until 1st October 2021 the deadline for persons wishing to apply for reparations to make themselves known in relation to the reparations ordered by the Chamber for the victims of crimes for which M. Thomas Lubanga Dyilo was convicted.” Read full article

On April 8, the Parliamentarians for Global Action National Group in Suriname met in Paramaribo and “agreed to reach out to their colleagues in the National Assembly to inform them about PGA’s mission and vision to strengthen the membership while working on developing an agenda for activities in 2021.” Read full article
